You’ve been invited to a baby shower, and you’re all psyched to go. You know a lot of your close friends will be going and you’re very excited to see them. You’ve planned your best attire and you know the venue, but before you go, you shouldn’t forget one very important item: your gift, of course! It’s always been tradition for guests to bring a present for the child during a baby shower. After all, this is the main purpose of the event—to “shower” the child with gifts and blessings.

Although there are numerous baby items available today, it’s not always easy to choose which ones you could give. You need to get something practical and useful, but is also cute and adorable. It should be something the parents can use for their baby while he or she is growing up.

If you still don’t know what to get, here are several popular and useful baby shower gift ideas you can try. See which one would be suitable for the child, the parents and would be well within your budget.

  • Baby clothes- Babies need clothes to keep them warm and comfy, and to protect their little bodies. You can get undershirts, onesies, jumpsuits, hats, socks, baby dresses, sleepers, pyjamas and a receiving blanket. Make sure you get hypoallergenic products so the child would be safe from skin irritations. (For more information regarding baby clothes, read The Guide to Baby Clothes)
  • Baby grooming, bath and health products- These can help clean and take care of the baby’s body. Grooming, bath and health products can include baby shampoo, lotion, baby wash, baby wipes, baby soap, nail file, scissors, baby thermometer, safety pins and first aid kit. A baby basin can also be a good baby shower gift.

  • Baby feeding time necessities- Items that can help feed babies are always great gift choices. Baby bottles, baby formula, bottle holders, nipples, breast pump, bibs, feeding spoon, baby dishes, tipper cup and burp towels are great choices you can get.
  • Baby toys- These can come in different kinds. Some toys can help the child learn, while others are only made solely for entertainment. Examples of baby toys include teething toys, play mats, musical toys, mobile, teething toys and stuffed animals.
  • Gifts for the parents- Sometimes, guests like to give baby shower gifts that are more useful for the parent than the baby. These gifts can include spa gift certificate, babysitting coupons and books on parenting.
  • Expensive, but practical gifts- parents would certainly appreciate these, since they’re expensive, but very useful. Baby furniture, such as dresser, changing table, bassinet, highchair, and baby swing are common examples. Large accessories, such as a stroller, baby car seat and safety gate are also practical choices.

  • Diaper cake- Parents are always running out of diapers, so this inedible cake would certainly be a great gift. Not only does a diaper cake contain loads of diapers, it also has baby lotion, toys, soap and baby bottles in it. It’s a great gift for any baby shower. (Tips on how to make a diaper cake)

With these baby shower gift ideas, you won’t have a hard time choosing a great gift for the little angel. Just make sure your gift looks presentable, so the parents would really appreciate it. Once you have a present, you’re all set to go!

Does anyone know of the top Baby Brands for toys or clothing that would show that the gift was of high value? I have to get a gift for a friend who is kind of a yuppy.

I always give out baby bottles when I attend baby showers. I choose sets with lots of colors that I'm sure the parents will like. A couple can't have too many baby bottles when they're taking care of their first child.
