As soon as parents find out they’re having a baby, one of the first things they want to do is to have a baby shower. It’s a great way to welcome their child, while enjoying time with friends and family. Holding a baby shower requires a lot of work. You have to take care of the guest list, the invitations, the decorations and the program. You also need to decide on a theme for the party. Having a theme makes the event more enjoyable and easier to organize.

It’s not easy to pick out a theme for a baby shower. Since you’re a traditional person, you want something that’s timeless, but easy to prepare. Why not have a cute ducky theme? It’s a fun and adorable idea that’s able to symbolize new life and childhood innocence.

A ducky baby shower theme might seem a bit hard to plan, but with just a bit of creativity, you can have a successful party with this theme. Here are several creative ideas you can use.

Ducky Invites: Cute Party Invitations

ducky invitationIt’s easy to find an invitation set with yellow rubber duck prints at party supplies shops or craft stores. You can also be creative with your duck invites. Make bib invitations with yellow ducks printed on their surface, or you can make invitations in the shape of cute little ducks.

If you have the budget, why don’t you send actual rubber duckies to the guests? Tie a small note around the ducks’ necks, with the party details. You not only gave out invitations, but also provided your guests with simple party favors.

A Bath Time Atmosphere: Ducky Party Decorations

It’s wonderful if you can give a ducky atmosphere to your party. You can use place cards, tablecloths, napkins and eating utensils with baby ducky pictures on them. (Or you could use this Gigantic bath-time buddy)

For the venue itself, make sure the colors blue, yellow and white are widely seen around the place. Why not create a fun baby bath time scene? Instead of fabric curtains, you can hang printed shower curtains around the place. Set up galvanized tubs with blue water around the place, and let duck-shaped candles and rubber ducks float on the surface. If you have duck stuffed toys, you can also use these around the party area. Lastly, hang up some blue balloons on the walls to make them look like small bath bubbles.

Yummy Ducky Treats: Party Food

Delicious treats for a ducky theme party are cheesy duck sandwiches and rubber ducky cookies. No, these don’t contain duck as an ingredient, but rather, they are cut in the shapes of cute duckies. There are cookie and sandwich cutters to help you create these yummy treats.

For the drinks, serve delicious blue pond punch, made from blue sherbet and soda. Place the drink in a large punch bowl, then let several rubber ducks (make sure they’re washed and cleaned thoroughly!) float on the surface.

Having a Quacking Good Time: Ducky Party Games

Fun party games can include playing duck, duck goose, duck scrambler (where the words to be guessed are all duck-related) and the duck taboo game, where no one is allowed to say the word “duck”. These games aren’t very tiring or cheesy, so the adults won’t feel embarrassed to play them.

Here’s another enjoyable game you can play. Get several miniature floating ducks, and mark some of them with “X” on their bottom. Then, let them float in a tub. The guests then choose which duck they want. If they get one with an “X”, they receive a special prize.

Ducky Memories: Cute Party Favors

ducky party favorsIt’s wonderful if your guests receive something to remember what a great time they had at your party. You can give away favors, such as duck-shaped soaps, bubble bath confetti (Learn how to make a bubble bath), or duck figurines. If your guests have kids of their own, you can also give away actual rubber duckies to make their bath time more enjoyable.

A ducky baby shower theme is a great choice for people who want a timeless and enjoyable party. Try this at your shower, and watch everyone have a quacking good time!

Rubber duckies always remind me of Ernie from the Sesame Street show. So I guess if you have an Ernie puppet, you can incorporate that into the shower as well. :E

Aww... rubber duckies! I love them! Thanks for the tips, I'll talk to my husband about it. However, don't you think a rubber ducky-themed baby shower will be kind of noisy? I mean, what with all the quacking that will go on. :)
